Garden "cupboard"
Now that I started recording some of the DIY projects I've been working on recently, here's one we finished two weeks ago: a kind of garden "cupboard", or more like a mini-shed.
It's to store the barrow, the lawnmower and other garden tools - and of course the charcoal for cooking nice dinners on the Green Egg :-).
We chose raw larch wood for the walls using a traditional type of construction. In Dutch it's called "potdekselen" - I couldn't find the English translation for it - where the upper plank partially overlaps the one below. It is important to have the heart-side of the plank facing outwards. As the wood changes shape over time, the years rings try to straighten and that will actually press the planks against each other even better.
One of the challenges was the door. I chose to construct the door from the inside and then to cut it out with a circular saw.
We finished the mini-shed in a more or less eco-friendly replacement for carbolineum
